We are looking for an experienced HGV Technician / Mechanic / Fitter to join the team in Barnstaple in a busy and well-equipped vehicle workshop. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled technician who takes pride in delivering high-quality workmanship and maintaining fleet vehicles to the highest safety and compliance standards.
Working on a diverse fleet of specialist municipal vehicles, you will play a key role in ensuring vehicles remain roadworthy, compliant, and available for operational use. The role offers a varied workload, a supportive team environment and the opportunity to work with specialist equipment and vehicle systems.

Duties of the HGV Technician / Mechanic / Fitter role
- Carry out servicing, maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on a range of vehicles and equipment.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with manufacturer and regulatory standards.
- Complete all job cards, inspection reports, and fleet management system updates accurately and within required timescales.
- Diagnose and repair faults across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Ensure vehicles are only returned to service when they are safe, roadworthy, and fully compliant.
- Recognised apprenticeship or equivalent time-served qualification.
- Experience of vehicle inspections and compliance requirements.
- Any experience working on municipal vehicles such as refuse collection vehicles, sweepers or similar specialist fleet equipment would be desirable
- Able to commute to Barnstaple on a daily basis
- Stable, full-time position within a specialist workshop environment.
